Great opening weekend in Texas!

Had a great 4 days of hunting on our lease south of Seguin..

We are an MLD property and so our rifle season starts Oct 1 for does and bucks start November 1.  We arrived Wednesday evening and were all really excited to get out and hunt!

We all went out Thursday morning and saw activity but no shooters.

I decided Thursday to hunt a new area that had some long range potential with the blind out on the middle of a field tucked under a tree.  Took out the 6.5 Creedmoor and took a doe at 350 yards with Hornady 143 ELDX.

Running my Southern Precision Rifles 6.5 Creedmoor that I have ran out to 1k many times, I have absolute confidence in this rifle. Golf balls at 500 yards and clay pidgeons at 1k!

Ruger American Predator with Boyds Gunstocks makes the perfect combination.

I have been using a silencer to hunt for the past 8 or so years.  I made the decision that I would never hunt without a can so long as I have one and it is legal to do so.  One of the things that a can does that is annoying, is it adds weight and length to a rifle, especially gas guns.  I have been searching for a lightweight bolt gun that did not break the bank and shoots well for some time now.  I was searching new rifles when I came across the Ruger American series and noticed that the Predator line comes pre-threaded.  I have access to some pretty spendy guns, but most of them are pretty heavy, and those that are not are not yet threaded for a can.  I decided to pick up a Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor to match the build up I am doing on a Ruger Precision Rifle with the same chamber.

Bergara Rifles

We are receiving one of the new Bargara B14 Hunting and Match Rifles (HMR) in 6.5 Creedmoor for testing.  Primary use will be for whitetail deer out to several hundred yards.  Bargara barrels are praised for their accuracy and the 6.5 Creedmoor is a flat-shooting cartridge rapidly gaining favor among hunters and competitors.
